10Wheel of Fortune

Arcanum 10 of 22.

Wheel of Fortune: a wheel lettered T A R O turning in the clouds, a sphinx with a sword above it, a serpent going down one side and a jackal-headed figure rising on the other, four winged creatures reading in the corners.
Drawn by Pamela Colman Smith for the Rider-Waite deck, 1909. Public domain.

What the card is

Cycles, and timing. The Wheel turns: conditions change, chances arrive and pass, nothing stays in one position for long. The card covers luck, opportunity and a feel for the right moment. It concerns circumstances that were never chosen, and what gets done with them.

The same paragraph stands behind this number on every chart that holds it. It describes the card, not the person holding it.

Where it can land

A Destiny Matrix chart has nine seats and each one holds a number from 1 to 22. Any of the nine can hold 10.

Whichever of them holds it, the card is the same card, and 10 covers luck, opportunity and a feel for the right moment. What a seat decides is the register it is read in, and there are six of those across the nine, because the four corners share one. What each register actually reads as, in words written to the person whose chart it is, sits behind that number on a chart rather than here.

Day point

Character: how a person acts, and what comes naturally.

Month point

Feeling: how it moves through a person, and what they need to feel safe.

Year point

The tasks of the first half of life: the work it keeps setting.

Karmic point

The lesson carried: the pattern that repeats until it is worked.

Center

What the soul rests on: the thing that genuinely feeds a person.

The four corners

Each corner is a pattern handed down. The two family lines run as diagonals, which is why each name appears twice: father from the top left to the bottom right, mother from the top right to the bottom left.
