6The Lovers

Arcanum 6 of 22.

The Lovers: a winged figure in the clouds above a man and a woman standing apart, a tree of flames behind him and a tree with a serpent in it behind her, a mountain between them.
Drawn by Pamela Colman Smith for the Rider-Waite deck, 1909. Public domain.

What the card is

Connection, and the choice inside it. The Lovers is about partnership and about deciding, because choosing one path puts the others down. The card covers love, harmony and a good eye for what fits together. It concerns choosing by preference rather than by pressure.

The same paragraph stands behind this number on every chart that holds it. It describes the card, not the person holding it.

Where it can land

A Destiny Matrix chart has nine seats and each one holds a number from 1 to 22. Any of the nine can hold 6.

Whichever of them holds it, the card is the same card, and 6 covers love, harmony and a good eye for what fits together. What a seat decides is the register it is read in, and there are six of those across the nine, because the four corners share one. What each register actually reads as, in words written to the person whose chart it is, sits behind that number on a chart rather than here.

Day point

Character: how a person acts, and what comes naturally.

Month point

Feeling: how it moves through a person, and what they need to feel safe.

Year point

The tasks of the first half of life: the work it keeps setting.

Karmic point

The lesson carried: the pattern that repeats until it is worked.

Center

What the soul rests on: the thing that genuinely feeds a person.

The four corners

Each corner is a pattern handed down. The two family lines run as diagonals, which is why each name appears twice: father from the top left to the bottom right, mother from the top right to the bottom left.
